52 Week Project {Weeks 1-5}

In 2012 I joined a great photography group online called Clickinmoms.  It is a fantastic group of photographer women who continually strive to learn and better their skills. I decided to challenge myself with their 52 week project.  The goal is to take one photo a week for the year.  Each week has a theme.  I have kept up with the photos, but am behind with the blogging.

Week 1 - New Year

Week 2- Silhouette

Week 3- Shallow Depth of Field

Week 4- Weather

Week 5 - Low light

Coming up for week 6: Texture

Snowcation

I might be slightly crazy, but I miss the snow.  Florida is great for beaches, bugs, questionable looking water sources, but some days I actually miss spending some time in the snow.  Lucky for me I just happen to have family living in northern Michigan. We took a quick trip back to The Mitten this past weekend for some family time and to address my longing for snow.

Lensbaby Project {January}

Welcome to month one of a twelve month project/blog circle.  I have devoted myself to learning the lensbaby in 2013, and I have every intention of pushing myself creatively and technically every month.  I tackled the return of the NHL for my first month's inspiration. The goods news is that I can only improve on my goals in February.  While January's results did not produce my exact vision, I did learn a lot form the experience. Perhaps next month I will focus on a subject that has less movement.

Quick Share-Courtney Campbell Causeway

Quick share tonight of the Courtney Campbell Causeway in Tampa.  The Tampa Bay was so still, it looked like glass reflecting light.

Lensbaby Love

My personal goal for 2013 is to learn how to use the equipment I purchased in 2012.  Last year I upgraded my camera body, computer, and purchased some artistic lenses.  One of those artistic lenses is called a Lensbaby. It has a bendable body which creates a small focus area or "sweet spot."  Also, it includes an interchangeable glass system.  You can purchase multiple accessories including a macro kit, telephoto kit, and wide angle attachment.  I was not happy with one, so I purchased all (it's an obsession).  This past week I finally spent some serious time with this new lens and really tried to learn how to use it.  My results were not so great. Below are the best 9 of my first 100 attempts.  I am not over exaggerating.  I took 100 photos.  If I turned these in for an elementary art school project, the 9 examples below would receive an S, the other 91 an S-.

Enjoy the Satisfactory work.

Fischer Family Funtime

So this weekend my husband and I will fly from Tampa, FL to Traverse City, MI to visit his bother + family. I had to work in south Michigan this weekend, and the high temperature today was 9F.  That is not a typo.  The high temperature is a single digit.  I do not consider myself a thin blooded Floridian yet, but I think we can all agree that single digits is cold.  As I think about my current situation, I realize that if south Michigan is currently single digits, North Michigan will not be much better in 48 hours.  I pulled up some photos from this past summer to remind me why I do this. Seeing the family warms my heart and gives me temporary amnesia.  Suddenly, my frozen legs from earlier today are a distant memory and I find myself looking forward to wintery weekend with the family.

 Best face ever. Still cracks me up.
